Éric Rohmer, born Jean-Marie Maurice Schérer, was a French film director, critic, and key figure of the New Wave, acclaimed for subtle, dialogue-rich explorations of love, morality, and human behavior. Former editor of Cahiers du Cinéma and co-author of a seminal Hitchcock study, he created celebrated cycles such as Six Moral Tales, Comedies and Proverbs, and Tales of the Four Seasons, winning honours including Venice’s Golden Lion and the San Sebastián top prize.
